fyi: edamame

July 9th, 2009 - by

edamame is one of my favorite snacks.  not only is it tasty, but it is also incredibly healthy and it is packed with protein, and vitamins a and c just to name a few.

so what is edamame you say?  well, it’s a young soy bean pod that is commonly found in japan, china, or korea.  it is steamed or boiled and typically served with a little bit of sea salt.   the word “edamame” means “beans on branches,” and it grows on clusters on bushy branches.

you can find edamame at most japanese restaurants as an appetizer, or you can buy a large box at stores like costco or sam’s club that contain perfect snack portions that you can put in the microwave for a quick snack.

and, if you haven’t tried it, give it a try!  you won’t be disappointed.  it may become your favorite snack too!
