This is my favorite time of year for food. The shelves at the grocery stores and farmer’s markets are starting to overflow with beautiful, ripe produce. And we all know that we should be striving to get in our daily fruits and vegetables. But not all produce is created equal!
Did you know that the fruits and vegetables most consumed by Americans are actually the least nutritious? Produce like corn, white potatoes, iceberg lettuce and bananas are surely delicious, but if you struggle to get in your fruits and veggies, try the following produce to get the most out of those veggies you are eating.
White: Cauliflower
Green: Romaine and red leaf lettuce, spinach, broccoli
Yellow/Orange: Carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, oranges, grapefruit
Red: Tomatoes, red peppers, strawberries
