recipe: orange-chocolate chip cookies

January 27th, 2010 - by

I’ve been on quite a cookie kick lately.  I think it’s because there is really nothing more simple to whip up when you get a sweet craving!  These cookies have one of my favorite flavor combinations – orange and chocolate.  And they are super soft, which is how I love my cookies!  Next time you get that cookie craving, give these a try!

Orange-Chocolate Chip Cookies

from Southern Living

Makes 2-3 dozen cookies

1/2 cup shortening
3 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Combine shortening, cream cheese, sugar and egg in a large bowl; beat until smooth and creamy.  Add vanilla and orange rind; beat well.

Combine flour and salt; add to creamed mixture, beating well.  Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake at 350F for 15 minutes or until edges begin to brown.  Cool on wire racks.

I had a recipe for cookies similar to these at least with the same ingredients. My recipe called for cream cheese icing with orange peel and juice and then chocolate drizzled over the top. They were hit at Christmas however the recipe is hiding from me for the last few years. I will be using this one and adding the icing. thank you for posting this
