As we all know, the name s’more comes from a contraction on the words “some more.” But, did you know that it is still undetermined who exactly invented the s’more?
S’mores scream summer, they are truly a summer essential along with popsicles, hamburgers, and hot dogs.
While no one can pinpoint the exact time and place of the invention of s’mores, we do know that the s’more recipe was first published in a 1927 Girl Scouts Manual. Most likely it was passed from one campfire to another around the time of the invention of marshmallows.
Over the years, the s’more has kept it’s basic components- marshmallows, a cookie/cracker such as a graham cracker, and a piece of chocolate.
Here are a few alternatives to your average s’more.
My all time favorite s’mores are made with the french cookies petit ecolier. {they can be found at many grocery stores in the cracker/cookie isle} They already house the most amazing chocolate on a cookie biscuit, so all you need is an ooey gooey marshmellow and you are all set. AMAZING!
Here are a few other fun s’more combinations and ways to eat s’mores:
- Reece’s peanut butter cups, marshmallow, graham cracker.
- S’mores using homemade graham crackers. Or homemade marshmallows.
- Nutella, marshmallow, banana, graham cracker s’mores.
- Use chocolate chip cookies instead of graham crackers.
- Use fudge stripped keebler cookies with the marshmallows, eliminating the need for chocolate and graham crackers.
- Use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate for a little variation.
- Use flavored marshmallows like chocolate or strawberry instead of regular.
Those are just a few ideas of some fun ways to mix up your next s’more time at your campfire.
So, I’m curious? How do you like to eat your s’mores?

I really need to try a s’more! Never tried one! They don’t really exist in England, so sad

I’m inspired this year to make homemade marshmallows for summery s’mores and see if we can tell a difference. What do you think? Will there be a difference?

Have you ever tried the toasted coconut Marshmallows? Roast that and stick it on a s’more and you feel like you are eating a girl scout cookie. Delicious!
