celebrate: halloween candy bark

October 27th, 2010 - by

I’ll admit it – I’m a total sucker for holiday candy.  The minute it hits the shelves, I know I’m going to be drawn to it and want to fill my cart!  So needless to say, we usually have an abundance of candy around the house come Halloween.  Add in the candy that I’m sure my daughter will score when she goes out trick-or-treating this weekend – it’s going to be a sugar high waiting to happen!!  But a great way to switch things up a bit is to throw some of that candy into this chocolate bark!

There are a few things that I really love about this recipe.  1 – it’s super simple – anyone could do this!  2 – Just about everyone loves chocolate and candy, so this will be a hit at any Halloween party you take it to, and 3 – this is a great recipe that almost works better after Halloween is over and the trick-or-treating is done.  Steal some of that candy from your kids and turn it into this delicious Halloween Candy Bark – I’m sure they’ll all love it!!

Halloween Candy Bark

1 pound semi sweet chocolate
assorted candy, chopped into smallish pieces (I used Kit Kats, Reeses, and M&Ms)
colored candy melts, optional

In a double boiler, melt the chocolate, stirring frequently.  Meanwhile, prepare a baking sheet with a piece of foil.

When the chocolate is melted, pour it onto the foil and spread evenly to about 1/4″ thick.   Sprinkle with the candy and gently press into the chocolate.  If using candy melts, melt a small amount and then, using a fork, decorate by drizzling over the candy.

Put the baking tray in the freezer and allow to harden for 30 minutes.  When done, break into pieces for serving.
