Après-ski…Photo Contest!

November 15th, 2011 - by

(French: after skiing) refers to going out, having food, drinks, dancing, and generally socializing after skiing.

Now that the snow has begun to fall and the resorts are opening, we’ve been excited as ever to shred the fresh Utah pow. Last Thursday on opening day, locals at Brighton showed off some sweet tricks at the terrain park, and the Solitude fanatics hit the smooth slopes nearby. This weekend, Alta and Snowbird are also opening so you will have even more terrain to choose from.

We’re often a bit tired and chilly after a long day on the slopes, so we’re big fans of the warm soups at the Cottonwood Zupas. If you need to warm up, come on by! Visit us at 6550 South 3000 East in Cottonwood Heights. Click here to see the Google map.

In honor of all the resort openings, we’re offering some chances to win gift cards and other prizes. Just send your best Après-ski pic (from anywhere) to: contests@cafezupas.com with a short description by Sunday, Nov. 20. Our favorites may appear on the site, and you may even receive a treat from us. Snap away!

Food, Inc.

October 4th, 2011 - by

Food, Inc. is one of those movies that I consider personally life-changing.  Several of the food choices we make in our family are a direct result of viewing this well-executed film.  I appreciated the knowledge shared and feel that furthering my personal education about food production and consumption in the US was a good thing.  If you haven’t added it to your Netflix queue just yet, you may want to take a peek the next time you’re up for a serious, informative read.  I’ve never regretted it myself. You can read more about the film and watch a short trailer on this website.

Also, what movies have you seen regarding food that are life changing or at the very least, memorable?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this film as well–I know it tends to be a bit controversial.

p.s. I’ll have some new France-inspired posts next week upon my return…in the meantime you can read about the food photography workshop I’m managing, or at least day 1.  I’ll be trying to blog from France this week as time permits…I have so much to share!

What is in Season Right Now in Your State

September 6th, 2011 - by

If you’ve lived in more than one state you’ve probably noticed that different plants are in season in different places.  Just because kale is popping up in one state doesn’t necessarily mean it is elsewhere.  Eating seasonally is a fantastic experience because you have the opportunity to taste a delicious piece of fruit or a vegetable at its peak.  This week I discovered a site that tells you what is in season in your state (click here to view).  So pick a state…any state…and discover what you’ll find at the farmer’s markets next month and start dreaming of all the ways you’ll prepare your seasonal produce.
