celebrate: super bowl sunday
February 5th, 2010 - by Jen
Just a couple more days until the super bowl. I often wonder how many people really watch for the commercials rather than the actual game. For all you super bowl die-hards out there, have you planned your super bowl party yet? If not, keep reading for a few tips and yummy recipes to really make your party great.
know your guests: of course you know your guests, you invited them. You want them to feel comfortable and welcome. Are they bringing their kids? other friends? Do they have special dietary needs? Prepare accordingly.
less really is more, most of the time: no one likes an over achiever, you don’t need lots of decor, games, or other activities as the main attraction will be your television set. However, don’t do the bare minimum or you might find your guests wanting more by the second quarter. Plan small for entertainment, big for appetite.
cook and prepare everything you can ahead of time: doing all you can before the party will ensure that you will be spending more time enjoying your guests (and the game) and wasting less time fussing over last minute preparations.
allow food to be easy access, and portable: Unless you decide to serve a traditional meal before the game, the best way to serve food at a super bowl party is buffet style. Guests can nibble and nosh
establish house rules: if you don’t want red hot chicken wings to be eaten on your new white sofa, let everyone know beforehand. Don’t wait until your cousin is elbow deep in chicken wing grease before calling him out alone.
and the last, and most important tip: relax and enjoy the game!

Hey Jen! Did you make any substitutions in the cheese fondue?
1 1/3 cups medium-bodied white wine, such as Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc -?
1 tablespoon kirsch (cherry brandy) -?
-Also, I don’t know if I have ever seen or tasted Emmental cheese. What’s it like? Is it hard to find?
Love you-Janie

Hi Janie! Stephanie wrote a great article on wine substitutions, the link is here - http://www.zupas.com/index.php/2009/12/wine-alternatives/
emmental is another name for swiss cheese, although I can imagine that any semi soft cheese that melts well will be a good substitute try gruyère.
hope that helps, love you too! xoxo
