I always find it interested to find where some of the everyday spices we use come from, because it’s something that I don’t usually think about.  Like cinnamon.  Did you know that it comes from a tree’s bark?  Cinnamon is one of those spices that is well used in my kitchen, but there are more uses to it besides just using it in you cinnamon rolls! I’ve been on quite a cookie kick lately.  I think it’s because there is really nothing more simple to whip up when you get a sweet craving!  These cookies have one of my favorite flavor combinations - orange and chocolate.  And they are super soft, which is how I love my cookies!  Next time you get that cookie craving, give these a try! Have you ever had a craving for something sweet, but didn’t want to take the time to do anything elaborate?  When I have a sweet craving hit, I usually make up a batch of cookies.  Easy and fast.  But sometimes, I’m feeling really lazy.  I hand wash all the parts to my mixer, and sometimes that just feels like too much effort, so even cookies are out of the equation.  Until I found these cookies.  Made in a saucepan (that can go in the dishwasher!) on the stove, the dough comes together in a matter of minutes and you have cookies before you know it!  So on one of those lazy days that you just have to satisfy your sweet tooth, try out these cookies! Are you one of those that made the New Year’s resolution to eat better?  I’m horrible at keeping my New Year’s resolutions, but I am valiantly trying to get in my 5-a-day this year.  And since my one of my daughter’s favorite things to eat (and her first “real” word after “mama” and “dada”!) is a banana, we constantly have a supply of them on hand.  And while I’ve always known that they are good for, I never really knew all of the health benefits that come with this sweet and tasty fruit. How many of you made the New Year’s resolution to get healthy or to lose weight?  If so, you will love that January is National Oatmeal Month!  Did you know that eating oatmeal can lower your cholesterol and may reduce the risk of heart disease?  And one 3/4 cup serving of oatmeal is only 110 calories.  It’s no wonder more oatmeal is consumed in January than in any other month of the year!
